Pints of Sweet Gherkins right out of the canner.
If you’re in a pickle, you need a pickle.
A whole jar of ‘em, that is. OR a jar of jam. Or jelly. These are my go-to charms after I get done batting my eyelashes when fix-it people come over. No matter what is wrong, who you have to call, what they have to do–when they get done? Go get a jar of something.
It makes them not want to charge you so much! Seriously! I have this phenomenon under investigation and I’m making pie charts. Or pies. Whatever. If you have to call someone, just go get a jar of pickles. Or jam. Or jelly. Trust me.
And if that’s not a reason to can, I don’t know what is.

Whenever I have someone over to do any work- they go home with applesauce or beets or peaches.
I have a sticker on the lids reminding them “You can return the jar and ring for future canned treats” and it is heartwarming to see how many DO.
They are just so impressed to get something that SOMEONE MADE…
